According to reports, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement issued on Wednesday that Ismail Haniyeh, the political head of Hamas, was killed in an assassination attack on his residence in the Iranian capital, Tehran. The militant organization Hamas has also confirmed the killing of Haniyeh. According to reports, one of his bodyguards was also killed in the attack. The attack was carried out when Ismail Haniyeh was in Tehran to attend the swearing-in ceremony of newly elected Iranian President Masoud Pizshakyan as an official guest. It should be noted that Haniyeh was the main leader of Hamas and was active in many peace talks.
